National Library ‘’Ilija M. Petrović“, Požarevac
Founded on January 27, 1847, the “Ilija M. Petrović” National Library in Požarevac is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Serbia and the eleventh library established in the country. Throughout its long history, the library has changed its name in accordance with its purpose and the types of work it performed, as well as its location. Today, it is housed in the Okružno zdanje building, erected in the late 19th century.
As the parent library for the Braničevo District, it oversees the work of all municipal libraries in the district and is accountable to its founder, the city of Požarevac, and the Ministry of Culture and Information.
With a branch in Kostolac, the library boasts a collection of about 110,000 library units. In addition to its quality book collection and numerous workshops and projects on both domestic and international levels, it stands out on Serbia’s cultural map with programs featuring the most prominent names in literary and public life.
