The “Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac” Music School in Požarevac was established as the Lower Music School by the decision of the Executive Board of the City People’s Committee in Požarevac on August 12, 1949. It began operating on April 1, 1950, when it was decided, upon the proposal of the Commissioner for Education and Culture, to allocate the building of the City Electric Company “Svetlost.”
In 1964, upon the proposal of the Council for Education of the Požarevac Municipality Assembly, the school was renamed the School for Primary Music Education “Stevan Mokranjac.” Due to high demand, the need for more space and teaching staff grew significantly. In 1982, conditions were met, and the school was moved to a new building at 1 Knez Lazara Street, where it remains to this day.
The Secondary Music School was established in 1982 within the educational center “Jovan Šerbanović” (now Požarevac Gymnasium). In 1984, it was verified and became the School for Primary and Secondary Music Education “Stevan Mokranjac.”
