Workshop 1 & 2 – ilDance in Castell Sant´Angelo
From 10th to 15th of March 2025, IlDance visited Rome for their first co-creation workshop within the Dancing Histor(y)ies project.
The residency was organized by I Borghi, in collaboration with MSPD Studios, Crdl, Pd Artmedia, and Mvula Sungani Physical Dance.
The program opened on the first day with a welcome meeting with the production team at MSPD Studios, followed by the first community workshop with youth from disadvantaged localities. The day concluded with an artistic festival meeting, setting the foundation for production planning, and potential auditions and rehearsals.
The second day was dedicated to site visits and space inspections, giving the artists the chance to explore Castel Sant’Angelo, the Auditorium Conciliazione, and San Pietro. These encounters offered a direct link with the city’s heritage, inspiring future performance settings and creative choices.
On the third day, IlDance met with stakeholders including Roma Tre Orchestra and Urban Dance Academy, deepening artistic and community connections. Another workshop with local youth and a follow-up artistic festival meeting ensured continuity in the collaborative process.
The fourth and fifth days were devoted to refining activities and rehearsals. Each morning began with a planning meeting with partners, followed by workshops engaging different groups of young participants. Afternoons included festival meetings or poetry rehearsals, fostering dialogue between artists and local cultural actors.
The residency closed with a final meeting on March 15th, focused on perfecting activities and production strategies alongside all partners.
Through this intensive week, IlDance established strong ties with both local institutions and communities. The workshops and encounters laid the groundwork for performances rooted in collaboration, accessibility, and shared cultural heritage.
