Workshop 1 & 2– Derida Dance in Castell Sant´Angelo
From 4th to 10th of April 2025, the Bulgarian dance company Derida visited Rome for their co-creation workshop within the Dancing Histor(y)ies project. The residency was organized by I Borghi, in collaboration with MSPD Studios, Crdl, Pd Artmedia, Mvula Sungani Physical Dance, and partners.
The program opened with a welcome meeting at MSPD Studios, setting the ground for collaboration with the production team. This was followed by the first workshop session with youth from disadvantaged localities, offering direct interaction with communities through contemporary dance.
On the second day, Derida met with stakeholders including I Borghi, Crdl, Pd Artmedia, and Mvula Sungani Physical Dance to discuss work approaches. A second community workshop engaged local youth groups in urban dance, while the afternoon featured an artistic festival meeting focused on voice recording.
The third day began with a workday planning meeting with project partners, followed by another workshop with local youth. The afternoon was devoted to an artistic festival meeting, designed to deepen dialogue and exchange with the community.
On the fourth day, Derida continued workshops with local youth, while the evening was dedicated to a co-production meeting, including exchanges with 420PEOPLE as part of the artistic partnership.
The fifth day included a visit and space inspection at Castel Sant’Angelo, providing inspiration from the historic site and reinforcing the connection between heritage and performance.
The residency closed on April 10th with a final meeting at MSPD Studios, where Derida and partners refined activities and finalized production strategies, ensuring a strong collaborative foundation for the next steps
Through this intensive program, Derida built lasting ties with local communities and institutions, merging contemporary creativity with historical and cultural heritage.
