Barumini Festival Programme

In the heart of Sardinia, at the UNESCO World Heritage site Su Nuraxi di Barumini, Dancing Histor(y)ies brings together dance, heritage, and community in a celebration of memory, creativity, and connection. Between 10 and 17 August 2025, the ancient stones of the nuraghe become a living stage for performances that explore the timeless relationship between people, nature, and spirituality.

This year’s programme presents a powerful convergence of European and Sardinian dance voices, weaving together ritual, architecture, and community traditions:

Polish Dance Theatre (Poland) – Bread of the Earth

A poetic work that connects Sardinia’s ancient rituals and the legacy of writer Grazia Deledda. Through the symbolism of bread, the performance evokes community, sacrifice, and continuity — celebrating the resilience that binds humanity to the land and to one another.

ASMED – Balletto di Sardegna, Gruppo e-Motion, Compagnia Danza Estemporada (Italy) – Nur-Akra

A collective choreography that revisits the architecture of Su Nuraxi through the body. Dancers retrace the shapes of towers, chambers, and sacred spaces, transforming them into gestures of encounter and shared history that still resonate in the present.

These performances intertwine ancient and contemporary expressions, highlighting the living bond between tangible heritage and the intangible knowledge of Sardinia’s traditional communities. Alongside dance, the festival celebrates local crafts, food culture, and community life, affirming Barumini as a place where art, heritage, and everyday experience coexist in harmony.
